Whenever a prominent honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial above others. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything that year
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences globally and have been for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
