19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
