Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior representative commented the attack left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
